Emirates Leads Autism-Friendly Air Travel

Emirates has become the world’s first officially autism-certified airline, setting a new global benchmark for inclusive air travel. Recognising that flying can be overwhelming for neurodivergent passengers, the Dubai-based carrier has introduced specialised training and practical initiatives to reduce stress and improve confidence.

Tens of thousands of Emirates staff have been trained to better understand autism-related needs, including sensory sensitivities, communication support, and airport navigation. This ensures passengers on the autism spectrum receive informed, compassionate assistance throughout their journey.

A key innovation is the airline’s global “Travel Rehearsals” — guided dry runs that allow neurodivergent passengers to experience the full airport process, from check-in to boarding, in a calm and supportive environment.

The latest rehearsal was held at Denpasar International Airport in Bali, one of Emirates’ major destinations. The initiatives help reduce anxiety, build independence, and create a more inclusive travel experience. While wider industry adoption is still needed, Emirates is leading the way — proving that accessibility in aviation is not just possible, but essential.
